About Elite MD Concierge

I am Armando Martinez, Co-Founder and CEO of Elite MD Concierge. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Baylor University, followed by my Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with a minor in Nutrition from the University of Monterrey in Mexico. I also completed my medical internship in San Antonio, Texas. In addition to my medical training, I have spent the past 14 years working as an educator in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.

I was born and raised in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, but have spent more than half of my life in the United States. Living between both countries has given me a unique perspective on two very different healthcare systems. I've experienced their strengths and weaknesses firsthand and understand how overwhelming it can be to find high-quality, affordable medical care when you or someone you love needs it most.

For nearly 30 years, I've dealt with recurring kidney stones. About 12 years ago, I underwent a ureteroscopy to remove a large kidney stone in Irving, Texas. Because I had health insurance, I didn't think much about the cost. Afterward, I was surprised to discover that my out-of-pocket expenses were significantly higher than what I would have paid for the entire procedure in Mexico without insurance.

A couple of years ago, my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer. She chose to have surgery in Monterrey to remove part of her large intestine, and I traveled there to support her throughout her surgery and recovery. I was deeply impressed by the quality of care she received, from the surgeons and nurses, to the hospital staff and overall patient experience. Equally remarkable was the affordability of such a complex procedure compared to the cost of receiving similar care in the United States.

That experience reinforced what I already knew: Mexico is home to world-class hospitals, highly trained specialists, advanced medical technology, and exceptional patient care, all for a fraction of the cost of some other countries.

These personal experiences showed me the difficult choices many people are forced to make; decisions driven not by the medical care they need, but by what they can afford. A physician I shadowed during my internship in San Antonio called this "pocketbook medicine," and that phrase has stayed with me ever since.

That is why I co-founded Elite MD Concierge.
